A detailed guide to living in the wilderness, including navigating with a compass; instructions on travelling by canoe, on foot or by dog team; equipment; wilderness food, cooking and recipes, etc. With a short introduction recalling the travel of Lillian Alling, a Russian immigrant who walked from New York to Alaska, in order to reach Siberia.
