First appearing 8 years after his landmark 'The Grapes of Wrath', this novel is set in a rural area of California and depicts the characters and driver who often ride a private bus between two small towns. The author was awarded the Pulitzer Prize (in 1940), and the Nobel Prize for Literature (in 1962). --- In full reddish-orange cloth covers w/blindstamped depiction of the bus careening down the road on the front cover and gilt-stamped titling to spine & cover. Volume lacks the dust jacket, and no apparent topstain. --- With some lightening to spine, dulling to gilt titling, spotting to cloth and with prior owner's inked signature to front paste-down, otherwise a clean, tightly-bound copy.
