About This Item
London: George Newnes, Limited, 1898. First edition. Cloth. Very Good. 11.5" by 10". None. An illustrated first edition of this book of military history on Wellington and the Battle of Waterloo. First edition. Illustrated throughout with frontispiece, and many black and white images both full-page and in-text. A record of military history centred on the Duke of Wellington, an Anglo-Irish soldier and Tory statesman who was one of the leading military and political figures of 19th-century Britain. He also served twice as prime minister of the United Kingdom. The work reviews the Battle of Waterloo which was fought on Sunday 18 June 1815, near Waterloo. A French army under the command of Napoleon was defeated by two of the armies of the Seventh Coalition. One of which was a British-led coalition under the command of the Duke of Wellington. Written by Major Arthur Griffiths, a British military officer, military historian, prison administrator and author who published more than 60 books during his lifetime. Bound by W. H. Smith and Son. Bound in red cloth. Externally, sound with light bumping and rubbing to the extremities and the odd mark to the board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd handling mark. Bound by W. H. Smith and Son. Very Good
