About This Item

Garden City: Doubleday, Doran, 1930. First edition. Hardcover. Fine/very good. First edition stated. Hardcover in black cloth stamped in green. Patterned endpapers. 327 pp. Fine in the original dust jacket, solidly very good or a bit better. Fiction. For twenty odd years Margaret Dacre had led a dutiful, shawl-carrying, emotionally surpressed life. From across the street of the quiet English village she watched the progress of the town scandal--the rapid disintegration of Andrew Lane, drunkard, reprobate, Don Juan, and the woman who was not his wife. After the wife dies, Margaret moves in and makes Andrew's redemption her goal as they live with a strange yet passionate relationship.
