About This Item

Bristol, England: J. W. Arrowsmith, 1892. 1st edition. Hardcover. black-&-white illustrations. pp. 310.,Small 8vo,,Bound in original illustrated tan/brown cloth,Hume (1859-1932) was a prolific English writer of mystery novels, including 'The Spider', 'The Thirteenth Guest', 'The White Room', 'The Mystery of a Hansom Cab', 'The Pink Shop' etc. This title not in Hubin. WorldCat suggests that this title was first published by Arrowsmith in 1891 and in the U.S. by Tait in 1892. The cloth covering the boards of our copy shows some wear and soiling. The hinges are tender, but holding nicely. Small circular stamp of Kensington & Chelsea Public Libraries to bottom right of page 47. Two small rubber stamps of booksellers (?) to top right of inside rear board. 'Officially Withdrawn' stamp to half title page, which also has loss to the top right of the page. Contents otherwise unmarked. A good copy of the original book in its original binding: not some cheap, print upon demand concoction or horrible e-book. A title from Arrowsmith's 'Three & Sixpenny Series'. A novel presented in a series of short stories and verse.
