By American author Charles Major written under the pseudonym, Edwin Caskoden. It was first published by the Bowen-Merrill Company (later known as Bobbs-Merrill). This edition contains a 1901 owner's name written in ink on front flyleaf. Copyright page notes this is a later edition (probably 1900 or 1901). Set during the Tudor period of English history, Mary Tudor, a younger sister of Henry VIII, falls in love with a commoner Charles Brandon. Adapted for stage, silent movies, and Disney's 1950s The Sword and the Rose. Fully illustrated with 14 black-and-white plates by uncredited artist. Gilt illustration and text on green cloth cover, gilt in good condition. Department store stamp on title page (Broadway Department Store, Los Angelos, CA).
