Shel Silverstein was a tour de force, a creative genius who not only wrote phenomenal poetry and sold more than 20 million copies of his books, he also received two GRAMMY AWARDS, a GOLDEN GLOBE NOMINATION, and an ACADEMY AWARD NOMINATION. But Shel wanted to start out as a cartoonist, tracing the works of Al Capp at age 7. Shel would first come to public attention as a cartoonist for Pacific Stars and Stripes; it was a compilation of these cartoons that led to his first book, Take Ten. His cartoons found wider appeal and Shel found his voice through stories, poetry, and music. This extremely collectible, lovely first printing

Where the Sidewalk Ends has been translated into more than 20 languages worldwide. The book received the New York Times’ Outstanding Book Award and was named an ALA Notable Book as well as one of the 100 Greatest Books for Kids by Parent & Child magazine. Note: Recited, sung and shouted by Shel Silverstein himself, the audio edition of Where the Sidewalk Ends was originally released on cassette in 1983 and won the 1984 Grammy Award for Best Recording For Children.
