About This Item
New York: Oxford University Press, 1951. First Edition. First edition. (First printing with date of 1951 on title page. In correct dust jacket with "For the Thoughtful Reader" on back flap and no mention of The American Elite on rear panel.) xx, 378 pp. Publisher's black cloth with white lettering. A single ink notation with underlining to a preliminary page, otherwise text free of markings, bright despite age and Fine, in a dust jacket with some very tiny stains to rear panel, else Near Fine with light shelf wear, unpriced as issued. White Collar pioneered the examination of alienation in middle-class American society (a subject Mills understood well from his own career at Columbia University and from observing his father, a traveling salesman) and has become a classic in the field of sociology.
