Collection of short stories set primarily in the South spanning the age of Reconstruction to the eve of the Civil Rights Movement (from the front jacket panel: "Eight distinguished stories of conflict and tensions in a changing society"). Dorrance has since become known as a D.C. author, teaching at Georgetown University from 1958 until his retirement in the mid-1970s.
