Eisenhower", as usual for this edition, signed on tipped in end paper as well as on Eisenhower's custom bookplate from his home in Gettysburg. INSCRIBED as well, wonderful association copy: "For: Tom Watson / with the warm regards of / his old friend / Dwight Eisenhower". 7" x 9.5" pp. [ix] xxiii [2] 3-741 with 40 pp. of B&W photos in 5 sections. In original publishers slipcase with glassine cover.Tom Watson Jr. was the son of the founder of IBM. During WWII Watson was a LTC flying military commanders, including Eisenhower in both Pacific and European Theaters. Watson had hoped for a career in either aviation or service to the State Department. However, with Eisenhower's counseling he returned to work at his father company's, ultimately leading IBM to become one of the premier corporations in the world. Eventually he was named Time Magazine's 100 most influential people of the 20th century. "It has been the consistent policy of the United States to maintain contacts with the captive countries and in appropriate instances even to assist them with economic help. Basically we want to keep alive in these peoples the hope of eventual delivery from their Commmunist masters. We want to let them know that the Free World is still concerned about them." (p 626).
