About This Item

London: Headline, 2003. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. In this remarkable new book, the author examines the key period in Hitler's life which transformed him from an aimless drifter and frustrated artist, into a charismatic public speaker and absolute ruler of the most powerful fascist state in European history. This was the two months Hitler spent being treated by Dr Edmund Forster in a military reserve hospital at Pasewalk in 1918. We learn of Hitler's mental issues after suffering a gas attack in the trenches, and why he was treated by a psychiatrist 600 miles away when everyone else caught up in the same attack was cared for only a few miles behind the front line. We are also shown how the methods used by Forster were, unintentionaly, to create a monster who would not only transform the whole of Europe but also turn on the man who had invented him. That Forster was also Jewish is perhaps the ultimate irony in this most fascinating and little known historical episode. Contains 336 pages, 24 x 16cm, with 8 pages of b&w illustrations. Ex-library, front endpaper removed, some library markings. Black cloth boards in very good pictorial dust jacket. Internally, very good: clean, bright and unmarked in excellent bindings. Exceptionally good condition for an ex-library example (if not for Library faults, would have classified as Near Fine).
