Description

Paris: Self-published by the author, 2015. 1st Edition . Paperback. New. Dudnikova, Lisa. pp100, PB, 150x230mm This is a collection of essays by Veronica Toumanova, a noted and inspiring teacher of Argentine Tango who is based in Paris but teaches all over Europe. Trained in ballet and modern dance Veronica discovered tango while living in the Netherlands and, as she puts it in one of her essays, "Why tango changes your life", fell into the dance unintentionally but then thought "This is what I have been looking for my whole life so far." Veronica goes behind the surface, considering movement, the anatomy of the body, psychology and spirituality when teaching and in consequence has developed a reputation for truly teaching people how to dance tango. The essays in the book covers both technical matters to do with dance and the psychology of learning. She talks about why learning to dance tango well may have less to do with tango than one thinks and about why different teachers take different approaches and why different learners advance and benefit in different ways. This is very far from being a teaching manual for tango or for dance but is, rather, a series of well-considered musings on aspects of dancing tango well which can too often be overlooked. It's recommended for anyone with a genuine interested in exploring tango not only as a seductive dance but as an important part of life, for anyone, in short, who has become bewitched by tango. About the author

Veronica Toumanova is a Paris-based professional tango dancer and teacher. She has been dancing tango since 2000 and actively teaching and performing since 2007. In Paris she is one of the founders and teachers of Tango Mon Amour, a group of five tango professionals from Paris and Lyon. Originally born and raised in Moscow, where she studied fine arts, Veronica moved to The Netherlands after finishing college, where she had her first encounter with tango while working in interface design. She later changed her career in order to dedicate herself fulltime to Argentine tango. Despite her education in fine arts Veronica has always danced and her experience in modern, contemporary dance and classical ballet allowed her to build a solid performing and teaching career in tango, further enriched by her experience with various bodywork techniques. She has worked with different partners, performing and teaching in France, Sweden, The Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Norway, Russia, Ukraine, Belorussia and USA. Since 2013 she is also a world-famous tango blogger thanks to her profoundly psychological essays on learning tango and its social dynamics. Her essays have been translated into 14 languages by enthusiastic volunteers world-wide. She continues to publish her newest essays on her Facebook page and her website www.verotango.com.
