The dust jacket's price is clipped. The head and tail of the jacket's spine are slightly chipped with a few tiny tears to the edges and soiling to the rear panel. The covers of the book are slightly rubbed with a thin white stain or scratch to the rear cover. [x] & 214 pages. The pages are slightly, but evenly toned. Otherwise nearly unread and excellent. The jacket has slight edge and shelf wear and is protected in mylar. Eudora Welty has signed on the title page (no inscription).

Owner signature of the reviewer on the endpaper, Beverly Layman of the University of Virginia, with a small ink date and the initials "VQR" (Virginia Quarterly Review) in the gutter of the title page.
