About This Item

Girard, KS: Haldeman-Julius Publications. Softcover. Very good. Digest 18. Title page undated, copyright 1944. 23 pp, in white printed wrappers. Pages toned, light surface wear to wrappers. Vance Randolph (1890-1982) was best known for his studies of the folklore of the Ozarks, but--somewhat ironically-- this pamphelt is dedicating to conveying the aspects of Davy Crockett's story did not belong to the realm of folklore. Most of the content is drawn from Crockett's autobiography, with material on the last four months of his life taken from the 1836 book Randolph refers to as "Colonel Crockett's Texas Adventures" (actually called "Col. Crockett's Exploits and Adventures in Texas"), which he suggests was written by a journalist with first-hand knowledge of the facts.
