A detailed, readable history of California from its discoery in about 1542 to the turn of the 20th Century when the end of a definite era developed. It is the story of a little visited outpost of Spain's Mexican colony to the thriving land of cattle barons and silver kings. Five maps and the very rare Walker map used as endpapers.
