This is a Good Copy of this Book in Publisher's red cloth with black title lettering to spine in a Poor Dust-Jacket which is badly chipped and worn to the edges with 3 1-1.5'' chips to the head and tail of spine and along the top edge of the upper cover,with further reapired closed tear to centre section of the upper cover and also to top edge of the upper cover.Creased to extremities of the wrapper and to inner flaps.Not price clipped and this copy has one previous inscription present to the ffep.Page edges are spotted slightly.This copy was acquired from the private library of a discerning and avid collector of rare children's books.The dust-jacket comes well protected in a removable cover sleeve.Illustrated in black and white by Thomas Henry.The book has a firm binding with no hinge weakness and their is no leaning to spine.Richmal Crompton Lamburn was born at Bury in Lancashire, the second child of Reverend Edward John Sewell Lamburn, a teacher at the Bury Grammar School and his wife Clara (née Crompton).She attended schools in Lancashire and Derbyshire and later won a scholarship to study at the Royal Holloway College in London, receiving a BA Honours degree in Classics.She also took part in the Women's Suffrage movement at the time.At age 27 she moved to Bromley High School in south east London where she began her writing in earnest.She died in 1969 at her home in Farnborough in Kent.8vo 252pp First Cheap Edition [1942] .
