Sherwood Anderson (1876-1941) wrote this collection of 22 short stories from 1915 to 1916 and published them as "Winesburg, Ohio" in 1919. All stories are set in the mythical town, and they detail the life of his George Willard character. Includes an introduction by Ernest Boyd in this Modern Library reprint edition. This work was named to the Modern Library list of the 100 best English-language novels of the 20th century. --- In Toledano spine 7 / green balloon cloth / limp boards / gilt cover & spine titling with inter-connected "ML" device / faded green topstain / orange Kent endpapers / jacket style e, verso lists 225 titles in ML catalog. Likely published c.1933 (though 1919 date appears in the book). ML #104.1. --- With green inkstains to cloth at tail of spine and the lower corner of about the last half of the leaves, prior owner's inked info. to front paste-down, mottled spotting to textblock top edge and at least one mark in blue pencil or ink to a leaf, volume is otherwise clean, unmarked and tightly-bound.
