About This Item

No place [Worcester, Massachusetts ?]: Worcester Association of Mutual Aid in Detecting Thieves, 1924. Original menu on thick card stock printed recto only measuring 7.25 inches by 4.85 inches.

Brief wear at one corner, lightly toned, soiled , & foxed, otherwise very good.

The attendees enjoyed a splendid meal of Eperlan Broche (apparently smelt) with Sauce Tartare, Dindonneau roti with Sauce Canneberge (more commonly known as turkey with cranberry sauce), and other delicacies.

One of the earliest private protective societies in the United States, The Worcester Association was formed in 1795 for the purpose of deterring horse thieves and robberies. After 1905, the society was primarily a social club devoted to "preserving memorials of Worcester and its early history." In 1976, the assets of the group were acquired by the American Antiquarian Society who reorganized the club as a friends group supporting the goals and objectives of the Society.
