From the publisher

Wendell Seavey was born August 3, 1938 in Southwest Harbor, Maine. As a child he spent most of his time with older fishermen who told stories of their lives. As time passed, life in Benard unfolded with many more stories which Wendell absorbed and remembered with uncanny accuracy. As Wendell became older he melted the experience and teaching of his father and the old men in a unique way.

As a man who hears the beat of a different drum, who is open to the universe and nature and its teachings, who's a psychic dreamer and has an iron clad memory for stories, his life is far from that of the average fisherman. He is a man of humor and humility, he is a mischief maker, his use of the language will boggle your mind, and he brings this all together in such a way that all who meet him know there is 'only one Wendell.'

Media reviews

"This is a grand account by a masterful and unselfconscious storyteller, and there are few that won’t find within them their own ‘Wendell’ in search of the stormy port called home."
-Arnold Weisenberg, Maine nature photographer

"It is written in the same way that Wendell, great storyteller that he is, talks…Woven through are truths and philosophical viewpoints from which we all could benefit."
-Muriel Trask Davisson, Director of Genetic Resources, The Jackson Laboratory, Bar Harbor, Maine

"In this day of fast-paced, disposable lifestyles, Wendell Seavey is a voice from the past, reflecting a bygone era. These tales capture the speaker’s rhythm and cadence. His accounts of people living in a close-knit community remind us of the dramatic changes in our society. We all need to remember where we have come from an the impact that small changes have on our future."
-Ronald Johnson, fisherman
