London: Chapman and Hall, Limited and W.R. Howell & Co. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Fourteen volumes comprised of 16 titles, as follows : Pickwick Papers; Dombey and Son; Great Expections and Uncommercial Traveller; American Notes &c and A Child's History of England; Bleak House; Martin Chuzzlewit; Little Dorrit; Oliver Twist and A Tale of Two Cities; David Copperfield; Nicholas Nickleby; Life of Dickens (by John Forster; Sketches by Boz; Reprinted Pieces and Hard Times; Christmas Stories. Books identically bound with green leather over the spines and corners, green cloth covered boards. 5 raised bands along spines with gilt titles and decorations in compartments. Gilt page edges all round. Some light scuffing, some light wear at spine ends (Pickwick Papers has a small tear at the top). All books square with firm hinges and text blocks. Undated, circa 1860. Marbled end papers, no inscriptions or book plates. Pages smooth, clean and clear of foxing, they appear unused, the light wear is external only. Abundant illustrations with tissue-guards. Artists vary from George Cruikshank, R. Seymour "Phiz" and H.K. Browne. May incur additional postage charges overseas.
Synopsis
Charles Dickens (7 February 1812 - 9 June 1870) was an English author of many notable works, including Great Expectations, A Christmas Carol, Oliver Twist , and A Tale of Two Cities. Multiple publishing firms have released bound collections of his works. Notable sets of Dickens Works have been published by Chapman and Hall in a 24 piece set, and Baker and Taylor in a 12 volume set.
