Some wear to edges, a few small scrapes and cracks, corners bumped. Bookplate on front pastedown endpaper says "A. Sword of Bothwellshields." Owner's signature from 1836 on front free endpaper, rear endpaper torn in vol. 2. Pages clean.
Pepys speaks of Lord Vaughan as "one of the lewdest fellows of the age, worse than Sir Charles Sedley" (DNB). That was saying a great deal, for some of Sedley's poetry is raunchy indeed. The 5th Baronet, Sir Charles Sedley (1639-1701) was a politican, dramatist and famed wit of his day. His poetry explores both satrie and amorous topics. Works in these two volumes: The Happy Pair; Antony and Cleopatra, a Tragedy; Teh Mulberry Garden, a comedy; Venus and Adonis; Bellamira; The Grumbler; The Tyrant King of Crete; and Memoirs of the Authors Wife.
