Handsomely bound in contemporary tree calf, the backs with ornate floral gilt decorations, gilt lettering on red and brown morocco labels, the sides with floral gilt rules, marbled end papers and edges, the bookplates of William Slater, Esq., Holmses Sharples front paste downs. Very Good, old tape repairs in two of the volumes, two other volumes with joints starting, top edges marbling dulled, widely scattered toning. Titles of the seven volumes are: Miss or Mrs.? and other Stories in Outline (1885, illus. by Henry Fildes and Henry Woods); Basil ( 1885, illus. Sir John Gilbert and F. Mahoney); Hide and Seek, or, The Mystery of Mary Grice (1876, illus. Sir John Gilbert and M.F. Mahoney); The Moonstone, A Romance ( 1886, illus. George Du Maurier and F.A. Fraser); The Haunted Hotel, a Mystery of Modern Venice, to which is added My Lady's Money ( 1878, 6 illus. by Arthur Hopkins); The Dead Secret ( 1875, illus. J. Gilbert); and My Miscellanies ( 1875, illus by Alfred Concanen). An attractive (albeit incomplete) set of an uncommon edition.
