There is is tipped in 12 line facsimile inscription, in Czech, on the page right before the Introduction..

In his subterranean studio, decaying plaster walls frame billowing clouds, nude and costumed women flirt with the camera, and children struggle to take their first steps - all metaphors for Saudek's vision of his native Czechoslovakia." Profusely illustrated with full-page color and b/w plates. Foreword by Anna Farova. Facsmile of letter by Saudek tipped-in on blank page in front of book. Letter is written in pencil and is in Czechoslovakian. In near fine condition.

Czechoslovakia's most important photographer for many years. His work is ethereal and includes the nude form in dreamlike sequences. His photos evoke the look of older photographs. He says that photography is his way of dealing with the loss of so much in the Holocaust (he was born in Prague in 1935). The book and dust jacket are in fine condition, only the most minimal of shelf wear. The forward is by Anna Farova, the leading Czech curator and photographic historian. On the blank page after the title page is a tipped in handwritten letter, in Czech, on moth stationary, signed Jan.
