NY: G. P. Putnam's Sons. Good with no dust jacket; Hinges cracked, boards worn, spine cocked.. 1931. Later Printing. Hardcover. Inscribed by the author on the title page. Many photos. Navy cloth binding with gilt lettering on front boards and spine. The orphaned author scraped together the funds working as a mariner in order to attend the University of Washington. There he was a member of the crew team. Rowing in Seattle's damp weather led to an infection in his foot, which later turned septic and required amputation. After he healed, he used his last $150 to buy passage to Honolulu and began a trip around the world which took him to Australia, Japan, India, the Red Sea, the Mediterranean Sea and England. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 325 pages .
