About This Item
Melbourne: Black Inc. / Schwartz Publishing, 2010. Paperback small, good condition, pages toned as common, rear cover creased, minor edgewear. 111 pp. Two maritime essays by Simon Leys (a pen-name), a literary cr itic and sinologist. The first essay relates the tale of the wreck of the Dutch East India Company ship 'Batavia' on the Abrolhos Islands off the coast of Western Australia in 1629. This includes the horror of a surviving mutineer attempting to murder the other survivors. The second essay, 'Prosper', is a small reminiscence of sailing as a young man from Brittany on a tuna fishing boat - one of the last boats to do so under sail.
