The first in the author’s series of novels for children of the Murry and O’Keefe families. Extremely rare in the first edition, first printing. Singed with intimate inscription on front endpaper form L'Engle to a friend of her adopted daughter Maria Rooney. Even more unique, L'Engle uses her married name of Franklin in the signature. Very minor wear to jacket, primarily at spine hinge with a 3/4" closed tear. Front free endpaper has period magazine paper clipping about the book taped to it, acid from the tape has stained the pages. Publisher's blue cloth over decorative paper-covered boards with gilt spine titles are near perfect with the exception of a small bump along the bottom edge of the rear board. Overall near fine in a like dust jacket. You will not find a more exceptional copy available!
