About This Item

London & Toronto: Canada Newspaper Co., Ltd, 1917. Paperback. Good. Two issues of an uncommon and infrequently seen wartime paper. Cover title "Canada. An Illustrated Weekly Journal" ; full title from copyright column. Illustrated stapled wraps, 4to (12-5/8 inches [32 cm] tall), pp. (Vol. xlvi No. 594) [i]-iv, [207]-236, v ; (Vol. xlvi No. 597) [i]-iv, [297]-324, v-vii, illustrated throughout with tables, photo reproductions and ads. Both issues with light soil and expected wear and tear, one issue with a few pages loose [but present] and pencil notes on some of the killed and wounded in one issue, second issue with ink name and serial # at top of front cover, faint water stain to bottom edge of some leaves - two leaves having minor loss from previously being stuck together. All the latest news from the European Front, telling of Canada's overseas military forces including the name, rank and unit of those missing, wounded, captured or killed in battle with a visit to Vimy Ridge and a list of those honored with the Victoria Cross and other awards of distinction. Likely providing a more realistic reporting of the facts than the 'Canadian Daily Record' which "... was relentlessly cheerful and rarely depicted the horrors of war." Francis p. 97.
