About This Item
Philadephia: John C. Winston, 1958. First Edition . Cloth. Near Fine/Good Plus. Octavo. Heugh, James; Schomburg, Alex. Philadelphia: The John C. Winston Company, 1958. First Edition [stated] in First State dustjacket. Jacket Design by James Heugh; endpaper art by Alex Schomburg. Octavo, 203 pp. Yellow cloth with blue spine lettering and blue rocket ship, emblematic of this famous Winston series, at spine bottom. A Near Fine book, gleaming, clean and no salient flaws, as close to Fine as a Near Fine can be, in a Good-plus jacket (see scans) Jacket which has several closed tears and some notable spine end wear including a chip at bottom end. Interestingly, one of the few jackets I have seen in this Winston series without bias cut flaps, though there is no price; of this particular title, I have not yet seen a priced flap. There may not have been one. One of relatively few book-length titles by the author of "This Island Earth". Scarce first edition of a scarce title in a series which was immensely popular in the fifties and appears to be even more so now. If you're here - and you are - you know the Winston series of juvenile sci-fi novels, a 37-title series issued between 1952 and 1961. I still read them from time to time. The first editions are not common, and The Year When Stardust Fell is one of the scarcest. L64
