This American classic is set in the backwoods of Florida and is the story, in part, of the relationship between a boy and his pet fawn. First published in 1938 and awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1939. With illustrations by Thomas B. Allen in brown monochrome. --- A handsome copy in brown cloth backed in quarter leather with decorations in gilt to covers and spine, gilt-stamped spine titling and 3 raised spine bands. All edges gilt, with sewn-in satin ribbon bookmark and eye-catching decorative endpapers. Lacks a dust jacket (as issued). --- With water spotting to cloth on covers, some light scratching to gilt textblock edges, otherwise a bright, tightly-bound, unmarked copy.; Octavo - 8 to 9 in. tall; (8), 380 pages .
Synopsis
The Yearling is a 1938 novel written by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings. It won the Pulitzer Prize for the Novel in 1939. Rawlings's editor was Maxwell Perkins, who also worked with F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, and other literary luminaries. She had submitted several projects to Perkins for his review, and he rejected them all. He instructed her to write about what she knew from her own life, and the result of her taking his advice was The Yearling.
