About This Item

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1938. First edition, first printing, with "A" and publisher's logo on copyright page. Hardcover. Near fine/Fine. 428 p. 22 cm. B&w illustrations. Tan cloth in mylar-covered dustjacket. Top edge grey. Some faint marks to lower edge of text block. Ink signature on front pastedown. Not price clipped, no offsetting, no interior stains or tears. Some faint soiling to spine cloth.

Young Jody has always wanted a pet and is overjoyed to adopt an orphaned fawn he calls Flag. While some of us remember the story - and the 1946 film - as the saddest we ever experienced, others enjoy this Pulitzer Prize winner as the ultimate tale of the bond between child and pet.
