Harper & Brothers, 1945. First Edition . Cloth. Fine/Fair. (1st, H-U) Larger, heavy book, black cloth with raised logo in red at bottom front right, gilt lettering and design on red at spine top, map of Europe and Atlantic area inside front cover and adjacent end paper, map of Spain inside back cover and adjacent end paper, 468 lightly browned pages. DJ heavy paper beneath mylar, light brown with red and black lettering, red line design, praise on back from G.M. Trevelyan in The Observer, Peter Quennell in Daily Mail, H.M. Tomlinson in John O'London's Weekly and others. DJ has tiny near-chip at bottom front bookfold edge, two very tiny tears at top front edge, micronick at bottom front edge, spine browned, very tiny nick at spine top edge. Fair DJ/Very Fine book.
