London / New York: J.M. Dent & Sons / E.P. Dutton 275 pp, 7" H. Deep red cloth with blind stamped emblem on front board, gilt lettering/decoration on spine, top edge brown. Pictorial endpapers, decorated title page. No date. Originally published in 1848. A novel of the early Victorian era, "Yeast" refers to the social ferment of the times. It highlights the disparity between the rural poor and the landed gentry, and particularly the hardships of the agricultural labourers. Some preliminary and some last pages of the book have very light browning, small label from bookseller on rear pastedown, very light browning to fore-edge and bottom of text block, minor edge wear.. Reprint. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket.
