Boston, MA: Houghton Mifflin Company. Very Good. 1911. 1st Edition; 1st Printing. Hardcover. B&W Illustrations; This book is in Very Good condition and is lacking a dust jacket. The book and its contents are in generally clean, bright condition. The spine ends and corners of the book covers have some light bumping, rubbing and beginning fraying. The book covers have several tiny spots of white discoloration. The text pages are generally clean and bright. The last thirty pages or so have noticeable tidemarking /possible water spotting. The full page illustration at page 314 has an inch sized semi-circular chip missing where the pages adhered along the bottom edge of the page (does not affect the illustration). All 17 black and white photographs are present. "J. Smeaton Chase (8 April 1864 – 29 March 1923) was an English-born American author, traveler and photographer. Joseph Smeaton Chase has become an integral part of California literature: revered for his poignant descriptions of California landscapes. An Englishman who toured the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto mountains in 1915 with his burro, Mesquit, Chase published poetic diary entries detailing his escapades through the Sierra Nevada mountains and California desert."
