Stated "Sixth Stereotype Edition"; originally published by George W. Light in 1838. Alcott was the first president of the American Vegetarian Society and founded of the American Physiological Society in 1837, the world's first physiological society. Much of this work is dedicated to vegetables, grains, and fruits, with additional chapters on keeping accounts and journals, the general purposes of house-keeping, and an interesting exploration into "Cooking as It Is," and "Cooking as It Should Be." Text-block age-toned but sound; lacking free front endpaper. Publisher's blind- and gilt-stamped brown cloth, worn at edges, especially the head and foot of the spine. Still, not unattractive; Near very good. [OCLC locates nine copies of this printing; Bitting, page 6 (later printing); Cagle 14-17 (other printings); Lowenstein 398].
