Fine condition (some offsetting in the endpapers) in very good dust jacket (a bit of wear on the extremities and slight fade on the spine). First edition. Hardcover. 783 pp. A large-scale narrative about an aspiring novelist and eligible bachelor from Kentucky and his love affairs with two women, battling for his attention as he becomes the toast of literary New York. The story sweeps through 7 years of the young novelist's life, involving plots and counterplots, scores of characters, and the politics of Hollywood. It ws the basis for the 1964 Warner Brothers film. Despite the disclaimer paragraph on the copyright page, the novel was inspired by the life of author Thomas Wolfe.
