About This Item
Prague: Orbis, 1929. First Edition. First edition, trade issue. Signed by Helena Bochorakova-Dittrichova on the title page in pencil. Bound in publisher's cream-colored boards with black stamping to front board. Text in Czech. Very Good, chipped at head, worn along spine with a tiny stain droplet, a little foxing to top edge, contents toned with age. Housed in a plain slipcase with the author and title written in ink on the spine, foxed. Rare, especially signed.
The first wordless novel by a woman, an autobiographical tale of middle-class life in Moravia (a rural region of The Czech Republic) told in a series of beautiful woodcuts. A significant though obscure early graphic novel.
