Hundreds of black & white with a few full color photos of the ship & crew. From the Dedication by J.L. Holloway III: "There will be other cruises and other crews for the Enterprise, but the events depicted in these pages belong to this crew - the officers and men who sailed and fought from the USS ENTERPRISE during the 1966-67 deployment to Vietnam." The book begins with the Enterprise arrival at her home port of NAS Alameda, moving to San Francisco Bay Naval shipyard at Hunter's Point, and Liberty in Hawaii. The balance of this fascinating book is "On The Line 18 December 1966 - 20 June 1967". "The waters about 100 miles east of North Vietnam, where the Gulf of Tonkin joins the South China Sea, are known to the men of the United States Seventh Fleet and the world as Yankee Station. These waters became well known to the officers and men of ENTERPRISE, for before they completed their last mission they were to spend 132 days at Yankee Station."

"The story of these anti-Nazi Germans who risked their lives deserves to be told. It is not merely a story of a plot. It is, indeed, incontrovertible proof that even in a totalitarian state the struggle for individual liberty does not cease. The knowledge that this was so in Nazi Germany can inspire all those who hope and work to build something better in the Germany of tomorrow."

Pearl Harbor and Hawaii

"In piecing together this valuable, minute-by-minute account of the events leading to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, the bombing itself, and its aftermath, the editors of the Army Times Publishing Company have drawn heavily on firsthand accounts and original interviews as well as extensive archival research. They move back and forth between Washington and Honolulu pointing out the shortsightedness and general incompetence that allowed the American fleet to be surprised despite the several hints and in some instances clear-cut evidence of the Japanese plans during the week that preceded the attack."

"Here the sweep, the drama and the tragedy of the global cataclysm that involved 56 nations are covered with the immediacy and impact that only great pictures can evoke. ...contains 720 pictures in World War II (92 are in color) ... assembled from official & private collections around the world. Many are action photographs that demonstrate the then new-found power of the 35-millimeter camera as a historian's tool. Some are from captured enemy files of art and photographs."

"No, I'm not making these names up. How am I able to recall them -- and all those events of fifty years ago? Certainly not from memory. On the first night out from New York, wile overseas-bound about the Scythia a premonition seized me -- luckily before seasickness took over. I sensed that whatever happened abroad would be "once in a lifetime" suff; ergo "keep a record." This is the vivid & humorous story that shows the human side of the army in World War II.

"The modern soldier, whether well fed or hungry, can travel much farther and a dozen times faster than ever before, on an astonishing assortment of wheels, treads, runners, "rolligons" and even wings. ... Some of the vehicles shown in Military Vehicles are experimental, some are shown in but one of several possible modifications, but all are interesting to those concerned with how our services get into action and how they are maintained once there." Anyone interested in military history would find this book of great interest. Black & white photographs of each vehicle with a description.

Signed by G. Baley Price on half title page. From the Preface by the Editor: "By this time a half century after the second World War, operations research workers are widely aware that their profession is an outgrowth of a scientific and technical problem-solving aid to British and US military services that began in the late 1930s. ... But these accounts, although they are of absorbing interest, often do not do full justice to the more detailed and personal aspects of the work that the analysts did, the conditions under which they did it, and their attitude toward it. ... The aim here is to reproduce these hitherto unpublished accounts just as the authors wrote them in mid-1945 after the end of the European war,..."

"An uncommonly reflective and illuminating memoir by a German officer who served on virtually all fronts in Europe, Soldat offers a unique inside look at the German side of World War II and a world in ruins. As military history, Soldat is a rich vein of valuable ore, thanks to Siegfried Knappe's eye-witness participation in so many crucial and significant campaigns of the war -- including the desperate defense of Berlin, wehre Knappe's role as operations officer to General Weidling had him shuttling between the lines of combat and Hitler's headquarters and bunker." The Decline and Fall of Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan: A Pictorial History of the Final Days Of World War II

"...Hans Dollinger is a remarkably nonpartisan, objective historian. Although German, he offers no apology for Nazism, and little sympathy for the German people seduced by it. He does not expess personal views and convictions. Instead he tells what Hitler did and said. He thus holds the miserable maniac up for all to see as he led Germany to destruction and moved inexorably to his own last hours in the Berlin bunker."

This is the story of World War II as seen through the eyes of 'everyman GI' Joe and Willie. "He knows, as no one can who hasn't been there, that Willie and Joe, with their unshaven faces, their damp, soggy fatigue suits, their shoulders sagging under rain-soaked combat packs, are our fighten men, the guys who have been up front in France, or Italy or Burma, for a couple of straight months or years. Mauldin knows their gripes, their jokes, their opinions, their fears, and he records their talk with the most pungent accuracy. He has caught their life so vividly that it is no wonder he is their favorite." Do you remember Willie & Joe in the newspapers or Stars & Stripes? Or did your Dad or Granddad talk about them?

Part of the "Story of Man Library" series. "Dare flashing flues of a whale with intrepid seamen of the Pacific northwest and join in their elaborate potlatches. Play stickball -- "younger brother of war" -- with woodland farmers or go on an Iroquois raid. Count coup with Plains warriors, beseech rain gods with Hopi Snake dancers, learn that Indian languages -- where one word may contain all the elements of a sentence -- can hardly be called "primitive." Use the book's tribal supplement and 32 1/2-by-37 1/2-inch cultural map to discover details about nearly 600 tribes of the United States and Canada. More than 440 illustrations -- 361 in full color -- enrich this vivid acount of the American Indian." All of the illustrations are typical National Geographic quality.

"Who, and what, was the Indian? Was he a cruel, skulking savage? Or was he a shy, simple, confused but often friendly red man? ... Many of the stirring events, recounted in the simple manner of plain people who took bravery with their buffalo meat breakfasts, are printed here for the first time. Ralph Andrews searched and researched until he found the manuscripts and personal stories that best expressed people's views on the Indian. ... is a photographic history and presents some of the finest studies of Indian life and customers ever displayed. ... Represented in the 200 and more photographs are some of the finest work of Curtis, Jackson, Barry, Rinehart and others."

From the Foreword by Rogers C.B. Morton, Secretary of the Interior: "American Indians have determined many of the characterisitcs of American life as it is lived today. Their confederations, their culture, their resistance to white expansion, and the non-Indian position in relation to them have shaped the government, the history, the geography, and the outlook of the United States as a Nation and as a people. ... will help Indians and non-Indians alike understand what happened when two cultures collied on the land that has become the United States." From the Preface: "The purpose of this tudy has been to bring together in one work a brief history of the Indian policy of the United States for the use of students, teachers, government employees, and the general reader."

"...tells the story of America's premier sportscar, from its earliest days, when neither manufacturers nor buyers were sure that this new name was going to survive, through the early racing days, and on to the maturity of the Corvette as one of the last of the all-time classic sports-racers. it deals with the constant conflicts between the stylists -- who wanted to build the most beautiful sportcar they could -- and the engineers -- where were more concerned with details such as handling, aerodynamics and even passenger space. Every aspect of the car is touched on, from the way glass reinforced plastic was chosen for the body, to the ways in which more and more power was constantly wrung from the engines." Profusely illustrated with full color photography of this classic car. This book is a MUST HAVE for any Corvette owner or collector.
