"This handy book can be taken along on any outdoor excursion. It gives practical advice on how to find your way when you are lost, how to build a shelter and how to start a fire without matches ... the Indian way." This is a fascinating introduction to traditional skills and knowledge preserved by generations of Native Americans.

This is a seminal autobiography of a Metis woman in Canada. Harrowing, moving and ultimately encouraging, it presents the reality of growing up as a "Halfbreed" in Canada.

Pryde's account of his 10 years among the indigenous people of Perry Island and other parts of the Canadian Arctic as a fur trader for the Hudson Bay Company. Aside from some dated attitudes regarding sex, gender roles, and race, this is mainly a respectful and personal account of a white man encountering a unique culture and harsh climate. Includes much information about Inuit material culture and customs.

Sad and profound, this is the autobiography of a young Inuit man that moved south and encountered racism, violence and addiction. Thrasher's writing is powerful and compelling.
