Enjoyable even as an adult. This is a modern fantasy book about a genius pre-teen boy and his exploits to break the written language of the Fairies. Although his intentions are somewhat evil by admission, his actions clearly indicate that he has a good side yearning to come out.

A classic book about a young boy and an injured swan that he teaches to play trumpet (because the swan can't trumpet). While the reader can't help but to learn empathy, this is an entertaining book for 8-12 year olds of both genders that they want to read several times.

Somewhat dated, the books in this series provide a complete view of social issues and the complex interactions that exist between civil rights, industry, environment, government, and many other aspects of society.
