Description:
London: Arco Publishers Limited, 1955. Octavo, blue boards (hardcover), gilt letters, 191 pp. Fine with bookplate; in a Very Good dust jacket with lightly rubbed edges and slightly darkened spine. From dust jacket: Here are exciting stories of co-operation between the R.A.F. and the French Resistance Movement during the years of the occupation. And here, in full, is the story of the memorable raid on Amiens prison in Frebrary, 1944, led by Group Captain Charles Pickard, D.S.O., D.F.C. His attacking force of Mosquitoes and Mustangs flew in low to the attack on the prison, where hundreds of political prisoners were awaiting death or deportation. With masterly precision the R.A.F. dropped their bombs, demolishing the walls of the prison. By the time Gestapo reinforcements had arrived on the scene, dozens of Resistance prisoners had been able to make their escape.
