Full dark red cloth boards in red & ivory dust jacket, 8-1/4" x 5-5/8", 269 pp. One small stain to front panel of jacket, rubbing to rear panel, some darkening overall, DJ price of $2.00 intact. Book itself has wrinkle in cloth to front panel, almost certainly a binder's flaw. Overall, a very nice copy indeed. Stories of "the little man.

This book is hard-bound in red cloth with silver stamping on the spine, in a dust jacket with light soiling, toning, and light edge-wear. The covers show some faint spotting. The binding is solid. The contents are bright and clean. There is a previous owner inscription/signature on the front free end-page. --- From the American First Editions collection of Donald C. Scriven (1948-2019). Don relished points of issue and the primacy of the dust jacket but above all he loved the literature! .

The only markings are on the front free endpaper - a library stamp and some inscription; endpapers have some tape and tape staining from an old dust jacket protector; scattered foxing to interior and text block edges; cloth is worn on board edges and spine ends. Unclipped dust jacket has a 3/8" tear at top of spine, shallow chipping at spine ends, a bit of edge wear; the inside of the jacket has brown glue staining running horizontally along the top and bottom - this shows through somewhat on tan areas of jacket; rear panel has a bit of rippling; jacket is now protected by a newer mylar sleeve.. First Edition / First Printing. Hard Cover with Dust Jacket. Good/Good.

New York: Random Hosue, 1942. 1st. Cloth. Collectible; Very Good/Very Good. The 1942 stated 1st printing of this early collection of Irwin Shaw short stories. Solid and VG (with light staining at the foot of the spine and light soiling at the inner hinges) in a bright, price-intact, VG- dustjacket, with mild darkening at the spine and a 1 1/2" stain at the foot of the spine bleeding thru to the cloth. Still though, a presentable and respectable copy. Octavo, 269 pgs.

Octavo (21cm); brick red cloth, with titles stamped in silver on spine; dustjacket; viii,269,[3]pp. Inscribed by the author on the front endpaper: "To Frances, through whose loving hands all these stories tenderly passed - Irwin." Light wear to spine ends, some offsetting to pastedowns and endpapers, with a few tiny scuffs to right edge of textblock, and some very faint and tiny spatter marks on rear cover; Very Good+. Dustjacket is unclipped (priced $2.00), dust-soiled, edgeworn, sunned at spine and extremities, with a few small nicks, tears, and creases (one of the tape-mended on verso), and some corresponding spatter marks on verso; Very Good. Shaw's second book and second collection of short fiction, with a most compelling inscription (we have, alas, been unable to identify the recipient).
