Description:
Garden City, NY: Doubleday, 1968. Book Club (BCE/BOMC) . Hardcover. Fine/Very Good. Text/BRAND NEW. Red linen boards w/gilt spine lettering/NF w/trace rub to upper front corner tip. DJ/VG; Strong & sound with nips, chips, & small losses to upper edges & showing faint discoloration. An examination of the life of Harold Adrian Russell "Kim: Philby (1912 - 1988), high ranking British intelligence officer who served as an operative of the NKVD (predecessor to the KGB) and KGB, and member of the Cambridge Five. Based on hundreds of interviews in the Western world. Authors Page, Leitch and Knightley are members of the Insight Team of The Sunday Times in London. As le Carré points out the political motive of Kim Philby remains elusive; it is said that Stalin suspect him of being a "triple agent". Much lore surrounds Philby, giving rise to various interpretations in fiction and film. His is a fantastic tale, and this is journalism at its best. Fine copy in a lesser dust jacket.
