Boston: Houghton, Mifflin and Co, 1897. First Edition. Octvo. First printing. Frontispiece, [i-x], [1]-270pp., p. [271] printer's imprint. 24 other illustrations by Oliver Herford. A delightful story about Little Crotchet, as he was called, because he was told he would never walk again after he lost the use of his legs. He asked his father for crutches even though his father told him they would not help him. He proved him wrong. With the crutches, he found he could run fast without touching the ground. He was able to visit all his animal friends in the forest and much more. Bound in yellow cloth pictorially stamped in black and green, lettering gilt, spine lettering black, green coated endpapers, all edges green, an erasure mark to upper corner of front flyleaf, some off-setting from newsprint to following 2 pages, foxing to spine, rear cover with just a bit of finger soiling, internally clean and bright. A very good copy.

Australia (1977): Rigby Limited. First Edition. Quarto. 149pp. written and illustrated by Australia's Children. A marvelous look at the history of Australia through the eyes of children and illustrated with their imagination. Bound in orange pictorial cloth decorated in brown and white, spine lettering white, some fading to edges of boards, in pictorial dust showing only minor wear but with two closed edge tears with old clear tape mends to underside of jacket. A very good copy.

London; nd [ca. 1840]: J. L. Marks. 12mo. (8)pp. with several hand colored plates printed only on one side, bound in pictorial printed wrappers, previous owner's name dated 1840, some darkening to edges and soiling, spine with separation. A good copy of this very scarce, fragile and very early hand-colored children's poetry book locating only 3 copies via OLC.

Chicago(1922): M.A. Donohue & Co. Small Quarto. 265pp., illustrated in color and in black and white. One of the most popular works Defoe translated in every language imaginable. First published in 1719, it has been reprinted numerous times and still being reprinted. It was made into a movie several times. A fine bright copy bound in green cloth, color pictorial pastedown to upper board, pictorial endpapers, housed in the original publisher's box with color pictorial pastedown, box is worn and has a few slits but a beautiful copy without fames, plates or foxing.

New York; 1946): G.P. Putnam's Sons. First Edition. Octavo. First printing. 88pp., illustrated by the author. The author's first children's book. This is the story of Phunsi, a Zebra who was trapped with his mother and shipped to America. Phunsi was and extraordinary, Zebra. He could run so fast. He and his mother were shipped to the zoo in Centeal Park in New York. Phunsi was very adventurous so he managed to get out of the zoo to travel the streets of New York. He met many friends along the way. A near fine copy bound in dark blue cloth pictorially stamped in light blue depicting Phunsi, spine lettering light blue, in unclipped dust jacket with a zebra pattern, lettering red,, Jacket showing only minor were to corners and spine ends, small closed tear to upper edge of front panel. Very nice with no owner's names or bookplates.

London: Macmillan and Co, 1927. Octavo. Half-title, Color frontispiece, 299(1)pp., (continous pagination) with 92 illustrations by John Tenniel including 8 in color. This was the book that made Lewis Carroll famous. Soon after writing Alice, he went on to write Through the Looking Glass which became another best seller. Alice (Liddell), was the little girl he wrote the story for. This is a beautiful copy bound by Riviere in full blue crushed morocco, elaboratly decorated in gilt, inlaid on the upper board is Alice and the Dodo bird, the lower board inlaid with Alice and the Queen., marbled paper doublures and endpapers signed by Riviere, all edges gilt, raised bands with compartments lettered and decorted in gilt, page 281 has a small marginal closed tear otherewise a fine, fresh and lovely copy housed within a lined cloth covered slipcase.

Through the Looking-Glass- First edition, first issue with "wade" for "wabe" in the second line of the Jabberwocky verse on page 21. 224pp., (1)pp. publisher's ads, illustrated with 50 fine illustrations by John Tenniel. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Twenty-Third Thousand (first published in 1866). 192pp., (1)pp. ad at rear. Also illustrated by John Tenniel with 42 fine illustrations. A fine set bound by Bayntun-Riviere in full red pictorial gilt morocco centrally stamped in gilt....Through the looking Glass with the Rabbit and Alice in Wonderland with the Queen stamped in gilt, edges ruled in gilt, raised bands with compartments beautifully decorated and lettered in gilt, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers, morocco turn-ins gilt. Folio. # 1638 of 2500 numbered portfolios printed in France on Mandeure paper, signed in pencil on the titlepage by Salvadore Dali and includes 12 color woodcut remarque illustrations. One original color etching signed in the plate, contents loose as issued in gilt-lettered cloth chemise housed within a 1/4 morocco over beige cloth clamshell, spine lettering gilt, with bone and morocco clasp. As new in original inner portion of the original shipping box and wrapped in the original paper each with their corresponding numbers of this particular issue. A remarkabley beautiful copy.

Philadelphia: Macrae-Smith Company, 1920. Octavo. 121 pages. Color pictorial half-title and other charming illustrations in color and in black and white by Susan Beatrice Pearse. One of the popular children's series and the adventures of Ameliar Anne who in this small book has a poor mother who took in washing but her green umbrella becomes the center of her life which after some small misadventures ends happily. Bound in green cloth, color illustrated pastedown, spine lettered in black, wear to corners and spine ends, color pictorial endpapers, previous owner's gift inscription. A very good copy.

New York, (1943): Grosset & Dunlap. Quarto. 24 unnumbered pages. Julian Wehr (1898-1970) was known as the "American Master of Animated Books". He patented his process which used a variety of media. Most of his collection is housed at the University of Virginia, Albert and Shirley Small Special Collections Library. This book has six moving illustrations, constructed on double pages. Spiral bound in color pictorial boards with the color illustrated dust jacket. A very nice copy with a few chips at the lower edge of dust jacket and upper corner with a small piece torn away, small closed edge tear to rear panel and tiny chip to lower edge, light rubbing or finger soiling.

New York; (1943): Grosset & Dunlap. Oblong. 24 unnumbered pages, illustrated by Julian Wehr. The work illustrated with four full-color movables "animated" by Julian Wehr who was known as the "American Master of Animated Book". Spiral bound in color pictorial paper covered boards, in the color illustrated dust jacket reproducing the cover design with chips to spine ends and corners tiny nicks and a closed tear to rear panel. A very nice copy.

1969. A two page manuscript letter signed by Tasha Tudor with stamped envelope. Miss Tudor writes that she is poor in giving information about her work as she never keeps records or clippings of her work and finds gardening as her favorite pastime. Inscribed "Best wishes to you & a/ Happy New Year./ Sincerely/Tasha Tudor. With a charming drawing of a rabbit below.

New York; (1940): Oxford University Press. First Edition I.. Octavo. Color frontispiece, 149 pages illustrated by the author in black and white. The authors grew up in Montana just outside Missoula and wrote several books for young people. Here they researched old letters and diaries for the background of their story. It takes place in the late 19th century where torn and strangely marked piece of buckskin is found hidden in a shack in their uncle's ranch. Bound in blue cloth pictorially stamped in orange, spine lettering orange. A lovely near fine copy in a clipped pictorial dust jacket with a small closed edge tear to front panel and a few tiny nicks to spine ends and edges. Very scarce with the dust jacket.

One of the most successful authors of popular German tales of how virtue and honor saved the hero from disaster (see the Oxford Encyclopedia of Children's Literature). Bound in original red pictorial gilt cloth decorated in blind pictorial spine gilt, pale yellow endpapers, light wear to spine ends and corners, second blank page brown, previous owner's names in pencil, early gift inscription in ink. A very good copy with some lightly scattered foxing.

Bound in green cloth pictorially stamped and lettering in gilt, spine lettering and all edges gilt previous owner's name and inscription, tiny tears to head. A very good copy.

London: For E. Newberry, 1796. Small Octavo in 6s. Second edition but the first illustrated edition. 221pp., Illustrated and designed with 47 cuts by Thomas Bewick. Bewick became a popular innovator of the use of wood for illustrations. He carved hard boxwood across the grain to achieve a smooth surface for his fine illustrations. A very nice copy bound in contemporary calf, boards trimmed with a decorative gilt roll, spine with slightly raised bands, black morocco spine label gilt, other compartments gilt decorated, light chipping to spine ends, marbled endpapers, joints and corners rubbed.

Boston, Nd(ca.1898): DeWolfe, Fiske and Co. Small Quarto. 190 unnumbered pages, profusely illustrated in color and in Black and White with 14 rich chromolithographs, including Jack the Giant Killer, the Three Bears, Ali Baba, Aladdin, Tom Thumb, and others. This is one of the scarcest editions bound in blue pictorial cloth depicting a witch riding a broom with an owl on the front cover in blue, red, gold, and black. Spine lettering gilt, wear along the bottom edges and spine, the spine ends have the cloth covering chipped but had evidently been colored blue, some wear through to corners, previous owner's gift inscription dated Dec. 23, 1898. A very good copy.
