A fine copy bound in blue cloth lettered and ruled in gilt, spine lettered and decorated in gilt, some toning from the original dust jacket which is not present and a couple of tiny spots to rear board. At the National Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City, his painting Lair of the Cat, won the prestigious 1991 Prix de West awarded by the Academy of Western Art.

The Two Medicine Formation in northwestern Montana has had one of the most remarkable findings of dinosaurs and other important fossils from the Campanian stage. Charles W. Gilmore was a major American paleontologist whose papers were written primarily while in the employ of the National Museum of Natural History. This is one of his most scarce papers his work in the late 1930's after his last expedition to the Two Medicine Formation. This copy is from the library of William H. Carr, a curator of the American Museum of Natural History in New York City Museum from 1919-1944, his name is stamped on the front wrap. Also, below Carr's name there is another stamped name of Botanist William H. Brown (1884-1939) who was Director of the Philippines Bureau of Science, 1924-1933, and then a lecturer in botany at Johns Hopkins University, 1934-1939. Staple bound in very good condition.

1912. 18 1/2" x 14 3/4" Signed by Henry Fairfield Osborn, President, and the Secretary, Adrian Iselin Interestingly, in tiny print we learn it was produced by Tiffany and Company. Charles L. Freer (1856-1919) was an American industrialist, art collector, and patron. He is known for his large collection of East Asian, American, and Middle Eastern Art. In 1906, Freer donated his extensive collection to the Smithsonian Institution, making him the first American to bequeath his private collection to the United States although they had intended to refuse it until Teddy Roosevelt intervened. He also funded the construction of the Freer Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. and was a strong patron of the American Museum of Natural History.
