Description:
London: Oxford University Press, 1922. Octavo. 131 pages. Illustrated. Each writer gives a fresh interpretation of Andrew Marvell's poetry. Of particular interest is T.S. Eliot who analyzes To a Coy Mistress as a masterpiece of both wit and great imaginative power. While the youthful college student appreciates the sexual images of the lady's denial of sex, the literary masters see a remarkable poem that transcends the world of the fleshly mind. A fine copy bound in blue cloth, spine lettering gilt, in a very nice dust jacket with a couple of tiny chips to head and lower edge of front panel, a large chip to spine at lower joint.

Description:
San Francisco; (1965): City Lights Books. Octavo. 255 pages. Illustrated with photographic images. Antonin Artaud is 'one of the great, daring mapmakers of consciousness in extremis, ' writes Susan Sontag. 'His work and presence reside on the boundary between being and non-being, art and non-art, reasoning and screaming. He proposes a new mode of thinking and of art--even as he simultaneously proclaims and demonstrates their impossibility.' The writings of Antonin Artaud (1896-1948) include verse; prose poems; essays on cinema, art, and literature; diatribes and polemics on the theater; six film scenarios; a historical novel; several plays; and a large number of letters.... His work was loved by Allen Ginsburg and the beats but was generally neglected by the academic community until after his death in 1948 and eventually came into serious readings and the references by Jacques Derrida. A very good copy bound in still pictorial paper wraps showing just a bit of rubbing to edges.
