Publishers green cloth, front cover letttered and decorated in black, spine lettered and decorated in gilt, dark brown endpapers, full page frontispiece of The Golden Gate, additional illustrations in line with text. ; 5-1/4" x 7-1/2"; 292, [8] pp; A book with a bit of notoriety, owned by a murderer. In 1878, Isaac Smith Kalloch (I. S.) was running to be Mayor of San Francisco. He was shot in an assassinati on attempt by Charles de Young, then Editor of the Chronicle and backer of another candidate. He would survive and go on to be Mayor. Two years later (1880) his son, Isaac Milton Kalloch (I. M., and the former owner of this book) shot and killed de Young. He was tried but not convicted. ; A well-preserved copy. Minor wear to covers, text block is clean. This copy once the property of I. M. Kalloch, with his signature in ink on front flyleaf dated 1878. .
