This is a very lovely small book of poetry by Dante Gabriel Rossetti with illustrations by Paul Woodroffe. It was published by David McKay, Philadelphia, and dates to circa 1916. This appears to be a special binding, more luxurious than the softcover binding that McKay published, because this one has covers of thick rose-colored suede leather with the title and author impressed deeply into the suede on the front cover and spine. The front and back have double-page illustrations by Paul Woodroffe, as shown, and the title page has a lovely design as well as a facing illustration; there are 3 other illustrations among the 27 pages. The illustrations are in the Arts & Crafts or Art Nouveau style. The page edges are gilt, as shown, and there is a pink ribbon bookmark sewn in. This is the six volume collected works of Robert Burns published in 1886 by Gebbie & Co. in Philadelphia. Volume I has an inscription page identifying it as "The Ayrshire Edition de Luxe Limited to One Thousand Numbered Copies of which this is Number 113," but this is the only volume with that identifier. These are 8o volumes about 9.25x6.5" with brown board covers having the title and volume number gilt-stamped on the spine. They contain sixty illustrations, including those facing the title page as shown; some of the illustrations fold out, as shown. The page tops are gilt. These volumes are in good condition with no writing or marks anywhere. The spines and corners have normal wear, as shown, and in the first volume the Publisher's Preface page is beginning to tear out. They may have been rebound from the original edition, but they are great for the collector.

These are the two volume collection "Life, Letters, and Speeches of Charles Dickens" published in 1894 by Houghton, Mifflin in Boston. They are bound in very dark green cloth with the title and volume on the spine, and measure 8.25 by 5.5" each. Volume I has 430 pages and Volume 2 476. The page tops are gilt and the edges are deckled. It is a bit confusing: these are identified as 'Standard Library Edition, The Writings of Charles Dickens, . . . in Thirty-two Volumes' of which these are Volumes XXX and XXXI, but they are also stand-alone collections of the correspondence.These volumes are in good condition with no writing or marks anywhere. The spines and corners have normal wear, as shown, but overall they are quite good.

Beautiful edition of Browning's Pippa Passes, written 1841; this edition was probably published around 1900. It comes in its box, whose graphics reproduce the design of the cover. Hard covers in tan with marbled effect print; title and author impressed print in full-color Art Nouveau design. This is a beautiful, beautiful illustrated volume of John Greenleaf Whittier's poetry from 1885. The cover has elaborate Eastlake style decoration embossed in black on the dark green boards, with a title gilt rectangle with delicate flowers. The spine is also quite decorative with black and gilt embossing. The frontispiece has an engraving of Whittier, as shown in a photo. Page edges are gilt on three sides and very clean, and binding is tight. There is a dedication on inner flyleaf in ink. Condition issues are: three whitish spots on the front cover, worn spine, bumped corners and bottom front edge.Please examine the photos for condition and please contact me for more information.

This is an attractive 1868 publication, the first American edition of a compendium of literature and poetry. 504 pages with index, illustrated frontispiece, random-cut deckle edge pages, tight binding. Covers have bumped corners and wear to top and bottom of the spine but bright gilding on spine and front cover in decorative design.
