Very good + in original dj with title in black on pink ground on front cover and in black on tan spine. Dj spine is a little sunned and marked. Internally, illustrated end papers and very light toning, o/w clean and bright. The story of the mysterious seventeen year old boy who appeared In Nurnberg (Nuremberg) Germany in May of 1828, dressed in rags and barely able to speak or walk and with a note addressed to the captain of the 4th squadron of the 6th cavalry regiment, in which the author asked the captain to take the boy in or hang him. The boy Casper, who may have been an heir to the House of Baden, was mysteriously murdered only 5 years later.

In the utopian satire Erewhon (1872) - the word is an inversion of "nowhere" - many conventional practices and customs are reversed. Its supplement Erewhon Revisited dealt with the origin of religious belief. Butler is best known for his autobiographical novel The Way of All Flesh, published posthumously in 1903.
