Internally, illustrated end papers and very light toning, o/w clean and bright. The story of the mysterious seventeen year old boy who appeared In Nurnberg (Nuremberg) Germany in May of 1828, dressed in rags and barely able to speak or walk and with a note addressed to the captain of the 4th squadron of the 6th cavalry regiment, in which the author asked the captain to take the boy in or hang him. The boy Casper, who may have been an heir to the House of Baden, was mysteriously murdered only 5 years later.

Quarter-bound in black calf, vgc. This is number 565 of 1200 copies. Samuel Butler (1835-1902), writer, painter and musician, was born in England. In the utopian satire Erewhon (1872) - the word is an inversion of "nowhere" - many conventional practices and customs are reversed. Its supplement Erewhon Revisited dealt with the origin of religious belief. Butler is best known for his autobiographical novel The Way of All Flesh, published posthumously in 1903.

Fine copy with crisp pages and plates as well as it's dust jacket. Beardsley was an illustrator and writer, "notorious in the 1890s as the outstanding artist of fin-de-siecle decadence." [Oxf Comp]. This volume is a collection of Beardsley's literary remains, including the dedication and text of "Under the Hill," "The Three Musicians," "The Ballad of a Barber," a translation of Catullus, "Table Talk," and two letters.
