1961. 1st. Cloth. Collectible; Very Good. Uncommon 1961 sampling of 100 Japanese textiles for springtime. Photographed in vivid, rich color, with accompanying Japanese text at each plate. Solid and VG- in its russet cloth, with light wear at the spine ends and along the outer hinges and light soilijg to the panels. Square quarto, over 100 textiles photographed.

1910. Letters. Collectible; Very Good. 1910 HANDWRITTEN LETTER FROM LEGENDARY AUSTRIAN ARCHITECT JOSEF HOFFMANN (Vienna Secessionist and co-founder of the Wiener Werkstatte) TO EDUARD JOSEF WIMMER-WISGRILL (the first Artistic Director of the fashion department of the Wiener Werkstatte). Clean and bright and very well-preserved. Written on the stationary (with lavish letterhead) of The Hotel Hassler in Rome. In a strong, clear hand, in fountain pen and on a single sheet folded into quarters -- with very minor crease folds. A translation into English from the original German on another sheet of paper is includeds as well. (8" x 10 1/2"). Also includes the original envelope, handwritten by Josef Hoffmann.

Paris: Bureaux Du Journal, 1872. 1st. Collectible; Very Good. Very impressive 1872 folio collection of 52 lovely chromolithographed Parisian fashion plates. Sumptuous color thruout, elaborate samplings of the leading women's fashions --and hair styles-- of the day. The plates along each recto, each verso blank. Bound in 1/4 morocco (with gilt-tooling and lettering along the spine) over marbled boards. Solid and VG, with very light abrading at the rear panel. Internally, clean as could be, with no foxing or markings to speak of and bright, vivid color to each plate.

Clean and Near Fine in its pictorial boards, with just a touch of light bowing to the front board. Tall quarto, Waplington's high-quality color photography throughout.

1981. Ephemera. Near Fine. Impressive archive devoted to the work of renowned New York fashion designer Geoffrey Beene (1924-2004). Includes 2 one-of-a-kind photo albums showcasing his clothing designs and a large portfolio of original free-flowing watercolor sketches. Beene was celebrated for his simple yet sophisticated designs; colorful, dynamic and comfortable. He playfully experimented with inexpensive fabrics such as denim and sweatshirt for evening wear and left his artistic mark on a wide range of accessories including eyewear, watches, and perfume. Beene's easy-to-wear layered looks were popular in Japan. The 2 photo albums profile his 1978 and 1981 fall/winter shows respectively, both sponsored by Tokyo's famous Takashimaya department store. Paris: E. Plon, Nourrit et C.. Decorative Cloth. Very Good. Handsome collection of illustrations, a number of them in color, circa 1890. Chronicling the fashions --mostly swimwear -- of women by the sea in Belgium's coastal city of Ostende ("Aux Bains de Mer d' Ostende"). Solid and VG- to VG in its dark-green cloth, with light scuffing and soiling along the panels. A minimal amount of wear at the spine ends and the tips, tender --but still perfectly firm-- inner hinges. Tall quarto, wonderful period ads, several of them even in English, at the rear.

Tight and Near Fine in its decorative wrappers. Tall quarto, dozens and dozens of crisp black-and-white photos and detailed line drawings thruout. Text exclusively in French.

1971. 1st. Decorative Cloth. Collectible; Fine. Beautiful 1971 study of the design patterns of Japan's Heian Period (795-1100 AD). Clean and Near Fine in its very attractive silver and blue checkered cloth. Folio, roughly 80 lavish tipped-in plates (with accompanying Japanese text) in rich, vivid color. Both the book and its interior are in pristine condition. This copy also includes a bright, Near Fine example of the publisher's box, which has its matching, silver and blue checkered cloth. A lovely production.

Text (improbably) by Alice B. Toklas, the 8 lavish sketches --all full-page, all along the rectos-- by Rene Gruau. Tall quarto, #210 of 350 copies issued.

New York: Esquire, Inc, 1948. Collectible; Very Good. 12 nicely-rendered color sketches by Al Moore. Spiral-bound, clean and bright and solidly VG. The 1949 calendar, each month graced by an Esquire beauty.

Berlin: Die Gestalten Verlag, 2005. Hardcover. Fine. A lovely copy of the 2005 1st edition of this lavish tribute to Diesel and its founder Renzo Rosso. A clean and Fine folio in its decorative velvet over red laminate boards. Also includes an extra CD (whose sleeve is affixed to the rear endpaper) and a pristine black plastic slipcase and gold box which houses the book and slipcase. A wonderfully-designed monograph on Renzo Posso and Diesel.

Clean and Near Fine in a bright, price-intact ($2.50), VG dustjacket, with light creasing along the spine edges and light chipping at its ends. Octavo, nicely illustrated by Robert Leonard. One of Helena Rubinstein's early beauty guides.

Solid and VG+ (with light offsetting and former owner bookplate at the front free endpaper) in a bright, VG+ dustjacket, with light chipping to the spine base. Quarto, crisp, very impressive black-and-white photos thruout by Francis Haar.

New York: PMc Publishing, 2007. Near Fine. A handsome copy of the 2007 stated 1st edition. Clean and Near Fine in its pictorial leatherette. INSCRIBED BY PATRICK MCMULLAN on the title page. Given the weight of this title, the binding is a bit shaken but is still perfectly sturdy. Folio, McMullan's exuberant "Glamour" portraits thruout.

Paris: Edition 7L, 2002. Pictorial cloth. Near Fine. The 2002 stated 1st edition of this definitive look at the 30 year career of Grace Pottington at Vogue Magazine. Clean and Near Fine in its dark cloth, with the wonderful orange, white and black caricature of Grace adorning the front panel. Lacking the printed acetate dustjacket but including a solid, VG example of th orange cardboard slipcase, which is solid and VG, with very light scuffing and staining along the edges. A veritable who's who of fashion photographers have contributed to the monograph, including David Bailey, Guy Bourdin, Ellen von Unwerth, Sheila Metzner, Herb Ritts, Snowdon, Sarah Moon, Patrick Demarchelier, Helmut Newton, Horst, Norman Parkinson, Annie Leibovitz, Jurgen Teller, Peter Lindberg, Irving Penn, Arthur Elgort, Mario Testino and Bruce Weber.

Spiralbound, crisp off-white wrappers, with just a touch of very light soiling at the panels. Easily VG+ to Near Fine and, internally, clean as could be, with no writing or markings of any kind. Tall quarto, very appealing color and black-and-white illustrations throughout.

London: William Miller, 1810. 1/4 leather. Very Good. A very presentable copy of the 1810 1st edition. Tight and VG in 1/4 morocco over its original light-brown boards, with the original title-label bright and fully intact. Solid and VG. with wear to the panel edges and light foxing to the preliminaries and, to a lesser extend, throughout the text. The plates though remain sharp and almost completely unmarred.
