Mexico City College, 1948. Hardcover. Collectible; Very Good. Uncommon 1948 yearbook of Mexico City College. Solid and tight in its pictorial laminate boards. Light soiling along the inner hinges, small box cut out at the title page. Tall quarto, apart from the student and faculty portraits dozens and dozens of photos of campus life, featuring primarily American ex-pats engaging in "American" activities (football, baseball, etc.). Still though, there seems something unsettling about such an enormous American presence (90%+) at Mexico' City's leading college of the day.

Published in conjunction with Missouri Botanical Garden and The Natural History Museum (London). Text in Spanish.

Clean and Near Fine in a bright, VG+ dustjacket, with very mild darkening along the spine. Oblong octavo, vivid color plates thruout.

Mexico: Archivo Casasola. Decorative Cloth. Collectible; Very Good. Exhaustive history of the Mexican Revolution, published in the early 1940s in Mexico in 5 clothbound volumes and in its native Spanish. Overseen by Augustin Casasola, each of the 5 volumes consists of 5 wrappered "cuadernos" (notebooks), which, bound together, make up each volume of this set. Clearly intended for high school and college usage, this work, with its hundreds of remarkable black-and-white photographs and thousands of pgs. of text, undoubtedly remains over 70 years later one of the landmark treatments of the Revolution. The set, in uniform quartos, is solid and well-preserved. Each volume is a 1st edition and each has held up nicely, with a tight binding and bright, gilt-lettered panels. A bit of rubbing to the front panel of Vol. II and light fading at the foot of the spine of Vol. V. Still though, very presentable and rather uncommon in its complete 5 volumes.

A clean, crisp copy of this wonderful 1933 artist's interpretation of the "Old City of Mexico". #73 OF ONLY 100 COPIES SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR AND ARTIST D.N.S. (DOROTHY NEWKIRK STEWART) AND IMPORTED INTO THE U.S. FROM THE LARGER 1ST EDITION OF 1,000 COPIES. Solid and VG+ in its off-white wrappers, with just a touch of wear at the spine ends and former owner bookplate at the front free endpaper. Internally very sharp, with no writing or markings to speak of. A skillful, charming Valentine to Mexico City and its rich history from American artist (Santa Fe) Dorothy Newkirk Stewart.

Solid and Near Fine in a bright, VG+ dustjacket, with light rubbing to the front panel and very light soiling at the rear panel. Octavo, 115 pgs., limited to 2,000 copies. Clear, high-qualty plates thruout, including several in color.

El Paso, TX: Self-published, 1970. Pictorial wrappers. Very Good +. Uncommon re-issue, circa 1970, of this well-researched, well-documented warning to American drivers concerning driving in Mexico. The author makes very clear he has no bone to pick with the country or the people of Mexico (as he notes, he and his wife seriously considered moving there in the mid 1960s); rather, it's the rampant corruption within the seemingly arbitrary traffic laws (or lack thereof) he's trying to warn Americans against. This is a crisp, well-preserved copy to boot. Tight and VG+ in its stapled, pictorial wrappers, with light offsetting along the panel edges. Internally, clean as could be, with no writing or markings of any kind. Among the chapters: "Speed and Lose Your Car", "The Chihuahua Prison", "Hit and Run Is the Custom", "Escape from Hermosillo", "Robbed by Juarez Police", "Police Brutality", "Mexican Jails" etc.

SIGNED BY THE GREAT SPANISH POET, PUBLISHER AND EDITOR MANUEL ALTOLAGUIRRE (1905-1959) on one of the blank preliminaries. A lovely copy to boot of the limited edition, #36 of only 50 copies issued separately from the trade edition of 500 copies. This copy sumptuously bound in the publisher's full vellum and includes a gilt-lettered leather title label at the spine. Clean and very presentable, with light spotting (possibly part of the vellum?) along the panels. Internally immaculate, with no writing or markings of any kind (apart from Manuel Altolaguirre's signature). Folio, marbled endpapers and pastedowns. Also includes a sturdy, sharp example of the publisher's slipcase, in its decorative paper over vellum. A bit of light abrading along the edges but very solid. An impressive copy of this special edition, uncommon as such.
